Four Republicans have quite noticeably stayed on the sidelines as Norman seeks the party nomination for a return to the county commission: His would-be colleagues.

Commissioners Ken Hagan, Al Higginbotham, Sandy Murman and Stacy White won’t make an endorsement in Norman’s race against Tampa businessman Tim Schock for the open District 6 seat. here

Jim Norman: Obama Can Go To Hell

At the Hillsborough county Republican party’s monthly meeting at MOSI he criticized the guidelines issued by the Department of Education last Friday requiring schools to allow transgender students to use the restroom and locker rooms that correspond to their chosen gender. “You’re going to have to take me to jail, because I would stand up against that, I think it’s absolutely wrong” Norman said, boasting about how he stood up and supporting removing gays and lesbian from the county’s Human Rights Ordinance back in the early 1990’s. “If my daughter, my friend, went into a restroom and someone with a beard tried to follow in, they’d have to run,” Norman said, adding angrily, “So Obama can go to hell.” here

Mr. Norman is a funny guy. Oh and he got crushed by Tim Schock in a straw poll.

Tampa Republicans Backroom Forum

“I have two orders of mushroom egg rolls?”

Tampa GOP held a candidates forum at a South Tampa eatery on Monday night. The forum was held in a very small backroom at Square One Burgers, and was sponsored by the Tampa Republican Women Federated and Tampa Republican Club. The candidates had at times to speak over waitresses who walked in between them calling out, “I have two orders of mushroom egg rolls?” here

Some of Mr. Norman's Highlights

Joined the vote to ban county government from even acknowledging gay pride events. He said no to health benefits for unmarried couples including same-sex partners.

"I see this as (leading) to gay marriage next," Norman said in 2004. "This is not going to be San Francisco east."

He angered black leaders with a proclamation honoring Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

 He blasted Obamacare as "a socialism takeover."

He hung out in Vegas with lobbyist who appeared frequently before the commission.

A developer-friendly commissioner he was owned by Ralph Hughes owner of the Cast-Crete precast concrete business in Seffner. He pushed hard to rename the county's prestigious award for residents who show moral courage in standing up to government for his friend and benefactor.

He told Mitch Perry of SPB that he is plotting a comeback. Everything you thought you knew about what happened to him in 2010 is wrong. It was all the media's fault. He is fired up about setting the record straight. here

Names being floated on the Republican side for Hillsborough County commissioner in the countywide District 6 seat being vacated by a term limited Kevin Beckner in 2016 include former County Commissioners Jim Norman and Ronda Storms. Norman is reportedly all but officially in the race. here
