Florida Voters Taking It Deep

Florida voters who heartily approved important amendments to the state Constitution can only wonder how the will of the people is being strangled by the obstructionist toils of the Republican-led Legislature. here
-----
Amendment to expand access to medical marijuana, approved last November by 71 percent of the voters, Republican lawmakers are proposing tighter rules on doctors’ prescriptions, as well as other obstacles for patients who want to use medical marijuana.
-----
Amendment to expand the use of solar power, which drew 73 percent approval last year, has been met by a raft of obstructionist proposals that would bog down rooftop solar installation. They include rules language drafted by the state’s major utility, Florida Power & Light.

Florida GOP To Deny Food Stamps To An Estimated 229,000 Floridians

The House Appropriations Committee passed a bill (HB 581) by freshman Florida GOP Rep. Frank White of Pensacola, that would restore income eligibility for households for food stamps to 130 percent of the poverty level, the minimum level set by the federal government. The household income standard was raised to 200 percent of poverty following the Great Recession of 2008 and 2009. here
-----------------
btw: $253 million. That’s more than a quarter of a billion dollars. It’s how much the state has handed over in taxpayer dollars for private lawyers, and fees for the state’s legal opponents, since Scott took office
 in January 2011.

FPL Customers About To Take It Deep

After losing a major battle in court last year, Florida Power & Light is now turning to the Florida Legislature to change the state law and give it the authority to charge customers, and profit off, speculative natural gas fracking.
-----
The bill, HB 1043 by Florida GOP Rep. Jason Brodeur, of Sanford, is titled
-----
"Prudent Utility Investments in Natural Gas Reserves,"
-----
and the Senate companion is SB 1248
by Florida GOP Sen. Aaron Bean of
Fernandina Beach.

GOP To Cost Florida 181,000 Jobs

The incoming Trump administration and Republicans in Congress are seeking to repeal the Affordable Care Act.  Research shows that would lead to a doubling of the number of uninsured, higher uncompensated care costs for providers, and higher taxes for low-income Americans and the lost of 181,000 private sector jobs. here

Florida GOP Undermines Public Schools

The GOP leaders in Florida have been denigrating public-school teachers for years with low pay, removal of meaningful bonuses and crushing paperwork. The beginning pay is so low many teachers are forced to take second jobs. Do you want your child's teacher to be out working at a convenience store in the evenings instead of making lesson plans? here

You GOP voters out there we
got your relief.

Free Lube For Florida GOP Voters Who Like To Take It Deep

The ecological disaster in the St. Lucie River and the Caloosahatchee River, including the Everglades and Florida Bay, is a toxic warning to taxpayers and voters that they cannot trust Florida INC. CEO Rick Scott or his board of directors who have allowed poor water policies to poison and degrade Florida's most valuable resources.
-----------
Scott implemented his agenda of promoting big business donors by killing growth management, stacking the water management districts, signing harmful legislation, setting in motion a political ideology that has ignored science and fact, and killing responsible government efforts to address environmental problems. here

Florida GOP Voters Taking It Deep

Massive toxic algae blooming around the southern half of the Florida peninsula, coating public health, tourism, business and real estate on both Florida coasts with dangerous scum, is the real consequence to taxpayers and voters of losing their bet on Republican leadership: Gov. Scott, Senate President Joe Negron, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Agriculture Secretary Adam Putnam, state representative Matt Caldwell, US Senator Marco Rubio, and all the insiders and cronies they corralled to serve on boards like the water management districts and Public Service Commission. This isn’t hyperbole.
A real bet was made by voters.
A real bet was lost. here

Free Lube For Florida GOP Voters

So for those incurably truculent in Tallahassee, here is the reality of what happened:
You cheated. You got caught. And now you're pouting. What's infuriating is their arrogance. These are elected officials who willfully ignored constitutional amendments passed by a vast majority of Florida voters, and now they want to blame the state Supreme Court for calling them out on it?
here

“I  believe at my core that the Florida Supreme Court has grossly overstepped its boundaries,”
 Rep. Dana Young

Sen. Tom Lee pouted that the court maybe violated his First Amendment rights and muttered darkly about hiring a
personal lawyer.

"Redistricting does not, it’s fair to say, bring out the best in people."

Registered Democrats in Florida still outnumber registered Republicans by 400,000, yet Republicans hold 17 seats in Congress to the Dems’ 10. Some might say that ain’t exactly genuine representation.
----------
Remember the class size amendment? Ignored. We passed  “Polluter Pays,” demanding that Big Sugar and Big Ag clean up their Everglades mess, in 1996. Still waiting on that one. More than 75 percent of voters said yes to conservation land acquisition last year. The Legislature’s response was to blow off the will of the people. Again.
As for Fair Districts, in 2010, Floridians approved two constitutional amendments instructing the Legislature to create districts that made geographical
and community sense.
Instead, its members cut secret deals and lied. here

For the folks that keep voting for these people,
we got your back!

Rick Scott admits he used dead mother in campaign as a sham

[In 2013] Scott said his mother's death changed his perspective and he could no longer "in good conscience" oppose expanding health care coverage to nearly 1 million Floridians.

Scott conceded this week that was all a ruse. He now says his support for Medicaid expansion was a calculated move designed to win support from the Obama administration for the state's proposal to hand over control of Medicaid to private insurance companies. At the time, he denied that his support was tied to a deal with the federal government. here

Sarasota's Right Wing Infestation

Donald Trump takes credit for helping thrust Sarasota’s Republican Party into national prominence and making the region a must-stop for some of the most important conservatives in American politics. Uber Right Wingers radio host Sean Hannity, Tea Party star Allen West and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, have all filed through downtown Sarasota — averaging 1,000 people per event. here
